Kazela Lodge

Kazela Lodge offers accommodation suitable for backpackers. It is situated at the Malawi College of Forestry and Wildlife, at the base of Chiwawo Mountain. in the Chongoni Forest Reserve. It provides a convenient base for walking or mountain biking and for visits to the Chongoni Rock Art. The Mpalale Dance Village is opposite the College to the east of the Pottery Road.

There are 9 rooms (4 single and 5 double). Double rooms are en-suite. There are communal bathrooms for the single rooms. Mosquito nets are not permanently fixed in the rooms but can be provided on request.

Facilities include:

• Restaurant with seating for 20. Main dishes such as chicken with nsima, chips or rice cost about MK400. Hot drinks and snacks available.
• Eds Bar, a separate facility located in the accommodation, provides soft drinks, beers and spirits. It is open till late.
• Laundry service

Conference facilities that can accommodate up to 20 people are available.

The Lodge can be approached from the M1 at the turning to the east signposted for the College, which is north of the Dedza Township turning. Alternatively, drive 8km up the dirt road past the Dedza Pottery and turn west at the College road. This road is sometimes in poor condition because of use by the heavy WICO sawmill lorries.
