Standard Bank
In centre of Township on east side of tarmac road, north of Metro supermarket,
in own compound. Open Mon-Fri 8am to 3pm, Sat 9am to 11.30am,
closed Sunday. International exchange for cash and travellers cheques.
ATM is available 24 hours a day and accepts international debit and
credit cards – max transaction MK20,000.
Malawi Savings Bank
On tarmac road, opposite Standard Bank. Has a foreign exchange bureau that deals
quickly with dollars and pounds sterling cash but does not handle travellers cheques.
Open Mon-Fri 8.00am to 4.30pm, Sat 8.30am to 12 noon, closed Sunday.
NBS
Tarmac road in centre of Township opposite People’s Superette.
Opening times – Mon-Fri 8am to 3pm, Sat 8am to 11am, closed Sun. ATM
for own cards only.
Bus Depot
At north end of the Township centre. Buses to Lilongwe and Blantyre
and minibuses stop here. Privately run toilets and shower facilities.

Car Repairs
F M Motors Garage (known as Car Garage)
On left at end of dirt road opposite the north gate of the Hospital. Provides a recovery service within
working hours. Open 7.30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 24 hour breakdown service. This garage also
has two cars for hire (MK6000 for a single day, MK5000 per day for week hire)

District Assembly
The offices of the Dedza District Assembly are located at BOMA bulding,
located on a dirt road after the Police building. Turn off the tarmac road
at the Red Cross Building. The organisation will try to provide general

Red Cross
In Red Cross building at the north end of the Township Centre, 100m north
of the bus depot. Price MK5 per minute. Open Mon-Sat 8am to 5pm.
AY Business Café
A cyber café located at the north end of the dirt road of shops parallel
with the tarmac road. Pedestrian approach to the south side of the two storey
Town Assembly building opposite the bus depot. Has 5 PCs with dial up internet
connection. You can also use your own laptop. Price MK5 per minute.
Photocopying and other facilities available. Open Mon-Sat 6.30am to 9pm,
closed Sunday but can be opened by special request by calling contact number.

Health
Dedza District Hospital is on the southern part of the Township tarmac
road next to the market. It operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and
provides a wide range of services, including a pharmacy, dentist and
optician. Non-resident tourists may be charged for treatment.

deals with emergencies as well as general enquiries) For an emergency,
the Police should also be contacted as the organisations work together.
Petrol Stations
There are three filling stations in Dedza:
- BP – at the M1 roadblock just south of the southern turnoff for the Township tarmac road. Open 24 hours a day.
- Energen – on the M1 halfway between the northern and southern turnoffs for the Township tarmac road Open 6am to 6pm.
- Total – in the central part of the Township tarmac road, opposite the Peoples Superette. Open 6am to 6pm
Police
The Police Station is located on a dirt road before the BOMA building. Turn
off the tarmac road at the Red Cross Building. Emergency number 997.
Post Office
Situated on the centre of the Township, on grasses area off tarmac road
north of the Standard Bank. Opening times – Mon-Fri 7.30am to 12 noon and
1pm to 4.30pm, Saturday 8am to 10am, closed on Sunday.
Shops
Metro Cash & Carry
In centre of Township next to Peoples. Open Mon-Fri 8am to 6pm, Sat 8am
to 5pm, Sun 9am to 2pm. Most products must be bought in bulk – crates of
drinks or items in packs of two or more. Soft drinks and beer, wine and
spirits, tinned and packet food, household products, toiletries, etc.
All Seasons Trade Centre
On side path facing two storey building opposite bus depot. Open
Mon- Sat 6am to 7.30pm. Useful large shop selling range of stationery,
computer CDs, toiletries, tinned and packet food, drinks, kitchen ware and
electrical goods, cellphone top-up.

Other
There is a wide range of shops located at the bus station, on the tarmac
road and the dirt road running parallel to the west of the tarmac. They
include general stores, clothes and shoes, stationery, cosmetics, luggage,
tailors. Shops are generally open from 8am to 5pm on Mon to Sat.
Market
At the southern end of the Township tarmac road, next to the hospital.
The market is large and has recently been rebuilt with shops on the exterior
and paved pathways between the interior stalls. There is a wide range of stalls
– fruit and veg, kitchen materials, toiletries, clothing, electrical and
hardware, etc. The stalls usually begin to close down at 4pm.
Township Assembly

part of the building opposite the bus depot in the central part of the Township
